Greek Winemaking on the World Market

The international wine and beverage trade fair ProWein has kicked off in Dusseldorf, Germany. It is one of the world’s leading wine and spirits trade fairs. This year it celebrates its 30th anniversary, bringing together more than 5,700 exhibitors from all over the world! For Greek winemakers, this event is of great importance, given that Germany uses between 39% and 50% of all Greek wine exports.

At ProWein, the Attica region is participating as a co-exhibitor in the National Pavilion, curated by Enterprise Greece. The regional governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalias, visited the event. The Greek delegation also included: Special Secretary of the Region Elena Rapti, Deputy Governor of the Region for Rural Economy Dimitra Angelaki, Regional Advisor for Agricultural Promotion Dimitrios Damascos, Regional Advisors Chrysanthi Avlonitou and Nikolaos Manganaris, as well as the heads of the Agricultural Policy Directorate.

“The wine map of Attica reflects its history, culture and future direction. For us, strengthening wine tourism, one of the fastest growing forms of thematic tourism, is a high priority. Because it contributes to the economic development of Attica and the entire country, promotes innovation and the adoption of best practices, creating new jobs with good pay and prospects,” said Attica Region Governor Nikos Hardalias.

This year, seven wineries from Attica are participating in the event, with the region itself subsidizing 80% of their participation costs.

Nikos Hardalias visited the Greek pavilion, talked to the exhibitors, and especially noted the multifaceted advantages of Greek winemaking. “The ancient varieties that define the country’s wine tradition are cultivated in the modern vineyards of Attica with the most advanced methods, by impeccable professionals, who place Greek winemaking at the top of the world market, giving another advantage to the famous tourist product of our region, offering visitors unique taste experiences that remain indelible in their memory,” said the Governor of Attica.

He also added: “We have a strong desire to be a constant supporter of our wine producers, using all available financial instruments to support their business activity and offering them the extroversion that their work deserves. That is why we are in Dusseldorf, at the largest wine exhibition in Europe, ProWein 2024. For three days, our wine producers will have the opportunity to promote their products to representatives of the international market, exchange experiences with leading industry professionals and best promote modern Greek winemaking around the world.”

The Governor of the region also visited the pavilion of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry of Cyprus. There he met with Cypriot exhibitors and representatives of the ministry and discussed future cooperation with the Attica region.
